We’re having a special guest join us at our next Pipe Club meeting! Luigi Viprati will be attending the meeting at the 1645 Central Avenue location at 6:30pm. Mr. Viprati is world-renowned for his workmanship, and known for beautiful straight grains. In honor of his visit, all Viprati pipes are going to be offered at a 25% discount, and there will also be free samples of Hearth & Home tobaccos. If you’ve been thinking of joining us for one of our Pipe Club meetings, this is going to be one you won’t want to miss! Pipe Club members involved in the planning of the NorthEast Pipe Show should expect to stay later for a planning meeting, as discussed last month. There’s only a very limited supply of our Exclusive International Pipe Smoking Day pipe tobacco blend, carefully created by our very own Master Blender Russ Ouellette, so be sure to pick some up before it’s gone forever! We’ll have a slideshow display of the pipe shows and conventions that we’ve attended as a Club, as well as live registration to our online forum. Just a reminder that this month’s pipe club meeting will take place tomorrow, February 3rd at the Colonie location. We’ll all meet in the lounge at 6:30 PM. We’ll be discussing the upcoming International Pipe Smoking Day event on February 20th, as well as planning for the March meeting theme. All Pipe Smokers are welcome to join us! Just a reminder for the members attending the Kaywoodie Factory Tour this Saturday… If you don’t already have a club t-shirt, we still have some available for $5. You can pick one up at the Colonie store, they are in Scott’s office.

February 20th, 2010 is International Pipe Smoking Day, and we’re going to celebrate the event with a custom tobacco, and multi-media event at the Colonie Habana Premium Shoppe. The exclusive Habana Premium International Pipe Smoking Day 2010 blend is a mixture of Virginias, 5 different Orientals, Latakia and Perique for a complex and sophisticated medium Balkan blend. Members of the Capital District Pipe Club are attending the event to represent our Club’s support of this day, and to facilitate a club membership drive (of sorts). Live registration to this forum will be available throughout the event, as well as a slideshow of our past participation in pipe related events and conventions. Plan and/or discuss the in-store event in this thread of our forum.
The Capital District Pipe Club is going on another road trip, this time to Peekskill NY to visit S.M. Frank & Co. the manufacturers of the Kaywoodie, Yello-Bole and Medico brand lines of smoking pipes and accessories. On Saturday January 23rd, we’re meeting at the old Colonie store parking lot at 9:45am. We will carpool from there on a two hour drive. We’ll arrive in Peekskill just in time to have lunch at the factory before our tour. We’re looking forward to pipe making demonstrations, and learning more about the history of the Kaywoodie pipe. We’re thrilled to have this private tour arranged for us, and look forward to posting pictures and what are sure to be fun filled stories. Stay tuned!
