Add 1 oz gasoline and 5 oz of Latakia and Larry will love it and the potatoes WILL burn. I guess this would be a HALF BAKED idea for a  recipe but it should work! We could call it LARRY'S HARI KARI BLEND. The mayor                          […]

Newark Pipe Show and Road trip

9:58 AM

Seven of us piled into Scott’s SUV, and decided that the very first thing we should do is get the needy of us some Dunkin Donuts coffee. We had already accomplished one comical memory, as I’m sure we’ll always remember how the “driver” situation was decided. Scott said, “Let Rick drive, he’s the biggest.”

o.O Okay, big dude drives the pipe bus… seemed to make sense to us. Two passengers up front, three in the middle row, and two in the back. While Lance sat between the two women passengers in the middle row, jokes were made about getting one of the women in the back seat for the ride home. haha (all in good fun of course!) ;)

Coffee in hand, and the route finally agreed upon, we were on our way. We would soon find out if we would brake with the pipe club tradition of getting lost on this particular road trip. If we can make it there without getting lost, it would be a first for this, the best damned pipe club! ;)

11:30 am

Well, here we sit. Apparently there’s been a car accident, so we’re sitting in completely stopped traffic. We’ve taken pictures of the lines of cars waiting, and we’ve done all the “cute” conversations we can think of… “Where did you two meet”… “What was your first pipe”.

1:30 pm

We’re finally moving again. Wow, was that really two hours? It didn’t feel like it! I’m still smoking my first bowl full in my new pipe! LOL We’re definitely on our way now!

2:00 pm

We made it! Here at the Whyndham Hotel. Yes, they have WiFi! Woohoo! First thing in the door, we meet up with the guys from the Sherlock Holmes club… and we were able to show them the web site, and our forum. We’re hoping to perhaps do some co-club events, and to see them in our forums! Ok, let me upload some pictures before I run out of batteries… more later! ;)

As I said, we met with the Sherlock Holmes club crew from Boston. Tim Hynick’s pipes were easily the hit of this pipe show! The pictures in this gallery are mostly his pipes. Three of our club members left with brand new Hynick pipes, and couldn’t be prouder to say so! :)

4:00 pm

We hadn’t eaten, so decided the next order of business after leaving the pipe show would be to stop and eat. Rick’s Dad had recommended a Portugese restaurant on Ferry St, in Downtown Newark, so we were happy to try it out. The food was delicious, and as usual, we all enjoyed each other’s company. Everyone left full and happy!

5:30 pm

After a particularly *interesting* exit from the restaurant’s parking lot (you’ve heard of the “three point turn”… this was a 19 point turn with 5 people all giving different instructions to the driver… the “big dude” from earlier) LOL. We were on the road again, and all in all it was a quiet ride home.

8:15 pm

Back at Habana Premium in Albany! Yay! A great trip, with some great pipes and great company. Who could ask for more? ;)

This was the first “road trip” to a pipe show I’d gone on, and I had fun. I look forward to doing it again, even though I was a bit disappointed by the turn out, and overall size of the show. The only other real pipe show I’d been to was our own NorthEast Pipe Show, which had more tables and vendors. There sure were some beautiful pipes at this show though!

As additional pictures trickle in, I will be adding to the gallery shown at the top of this page, so stay tuned!
